JOB SUMMARY:

 The purpose of this position is to respond to requests for locating CCWA utility lines and services.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responds to requests made to CCWA for locating water and sewer lines: receives and assesses locate tickets; determines which tickets require a site visit and which tickets are not in conflict; enters locate response code on ticket in software; and maintains a log of responses to requests and actions taken.
  • Performs investigative work in the location of water lines, taps, meters, and other various equipment; uses metal detection devices, map plots, and diagrams.
  • Locates utility lines; travels to site; reads maps; locates depth and length of lines; marks locations of utility lines; takes photos; prepares and updates field drawings of lines; coordinates with the Engineering staff to update mapping; and checks sewer manholes blockages.
  • Locates private utilities at CCWA plants and facilities.
  • Investigates damage to utility lines due to excavation; takes photos of lines and markings, extent of damage, etc.; analyzes information and makes recommendation regarding liability of damage; and prepares and submits related documentation and reports.
  • Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments.
  • May work on large projects with contracts, state, CCWA, and other companies
  • Performs other assigned duties.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; six (6) months of experience in construction and maintenance of water systems utility locating, or related field preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

 

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Tasks involve some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
  • This position works on-call as needed.
  • Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
